Mirjana Bobic Mojsilovic: A Serbian Writer and Artist




Mirjana Bobic Mojsilovic is a Serbian journalist, columnist, painter, TV author, novelist, playwright and director. She was born on June 29, 1959 in Belgrade. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, where she studied journalism. She started her career as a reporter for "Omladinske novine" and "Duga" in 1979. She was an editor for the magazine "Intervju", and then an editor-author for "Duga". She wrote for NIN, Mladina, Danas, Oslobođenje, Nedelja, Politika, TV revija, Stav, Demokratija and others. She also hosted several TV shows, such as Ovo vas još nisam pitala (TV B92), Pogodi ko dolazi na večeru (Enter TV) and Srećna Srbija (Prva TV). Besides writing, she is also a painter and has had several solo exhibitions.

Mirjana Bobic Mojsilovic has a twin sister, Zorica Tomic, who is also a writer and a professor of communication and culture at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. Together with her sister, she wrote a book on astrology called Liber Stellarum in the 1980s. Mirjana is a columnist for Večernje novosti, where she writes under the title Srce pod pritiskom. She is also a free artist and lives in Belgrade.


Her Works




Mirjana Bobic Mojsilovic has published several novels, short stories, poems and plays. Her first book was Baba nemoj ništa da me pitaš (1997), a collection of short stories about love, women and their funny, sad, amusing and boring men. One of the stories, Dragulj Beograda, was included in the Anthology of Stories by Serbian Women Writers by Rajko Lukač. Her drama Suze su okej (1999) was performed at the National Theatre in Belgrade. It is a story about poets and their desire to leave a mark in life. Her novel Dnevnik srpske domaćice (2000) tells about Tito's pioneers in Milošević's Serbia and everything that shook us in those times. It was published in France by L'age d'homme and in Italy by Publikem in 2002.


Her other novels include Happy End (2002), about a forty-year-old English teacher who searches for love and fears aging; Majke mi, bajka (2003), where the same protagonist wonders if a happy ending is possible only in fairy tales or in real life; Ono sve što znaš o meni (2005), whose title is taken from a song by Arsen Dedić; Tvoj sam (2006), which differs from her previous works by having a male protagonist, a betrayed husband who discovers his wife's infidelity after her death; Srce moje (2007), a novel about two in love writers who write about their past love in their own books; Azbuka mog života (2008), an autobiographical work; Glad (2009), a novel about hunger for life; Gospodin pogrešni (2010), a romantic comedy; Traži me (2012), a novel about finding oneself; Tvoj anđeo čuvar (2016), a novel about guardian angels; Obećao si mi (2016), a collection of poems.


She is also the author of six theatrical plays: Suze su O.K., Verica među šljivama, Pozovi M radi užitka, Poslednja šansa, Pogodi ko dolazi na večeru and Svlačenje. They were staged at the National Theatre, Atelje 212, Kult Teatar, Zvezdara Teatar, Akademija 28 and KC "Palilula". Twelve of her titles were published in France, Italy, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia and Macedonia.

Mirjana Bobić Mojsilovic has received several awards for her work. She won the "Zlatni bestseler" award several times for her novels. She also received the "Zlatna značka" award from the Cultural-Educational Community of Serbia. She was nominated for the NIN Award for her novel Glad in 2009. She was also nominated for the "Isidora Sekulić" award for her novel Tvoj sam in 2006.
